When I visited my lady Kari in the Club Med Hostel this morning after I spent the night next door at the KOTS Hilton, we got to carrying on and having so much fun through the bulletproof glass separating us that I said, “Dang, the sheriff ought to record and video our visits, and sell it to some TV network!
Along the way …
Kari said jail guards are stealing inmates’ hard boiled eggs, and even stealing other guards’ inmates’ hard boiled eggs, for themselves, and some interesting commotion has been going on about that …
I told Kari, if the jail keeps feeding her soybeans, they will have to open all the doors to the jail and she will be able to make a break for it and we will skidaddle. As is, nobody wants her as a cell mate, because of all those soybean products the jail serves instead of meat.
Kari said women in the jail can’t believe her boyfriend comes to see her every visitation period …
Kari said some women in the jail want autographed copies of my novel, HEAVY WAIT: A Strange Tail, er, Tale.
I had two copies mailed to Kari, one for her, one for the unit she is on. The unit’s copy is getting passed around, she said. I said, this morning, my publisher sent me a notice of being able to buy the novel for 2 cents a copy, plus shipping and handling, and I thought I would by 5 copies and have them sent to her, to put into the unit’s library. She said she would sign them for me. I said, fine. When I sign them, I write, “None of this tale is true but the parts you believe are.” Kari said, yeah, and too much of it seemed all too true when she read it. I smiled, pleaded the 5th.
After Monroe County Mayor Emeritus Shirley Freeman
read a copy of HEAVY WAIT, which I gave to her, she said she loved it, couldn’t put it down, but how much of it really happened? I said, well, what did I write in the inscription? “None of this tale is true but …” But yes, I had to live something like it, to be able to write it.
A big piece of the story concerns a woman who was molested by her older brother when she was young, and how she came to remember that, and how she was healed of it. Maybe that’s why some of the women in the jail like the book. Maybe some of them had the same thing happen to them, and they still aren’t over it. The heroine in the tale got over it, but it wasn’t because of anything humanity had to offer. Right, it was not of this world, what happened to her, for her to get over it. Strange ain’t even close to describing how she got over it, with some help from ex- super trial lawyer beaux, Riley Strange. Pronounced r-e-a-l-l-y s-t-r-a-n-g-e.
www.amazon.com has HEAVY WAIT in kindle, trade paperback, and large print.
www.amazon.es has it in Spanish, kindle and trade paper back .
Received a forwarded love note this morning from Deer Ed, publisher/editor of bigpinekey.com’s Coconut Telegraph bitch and sometimes praise blog.
Someone posted this:
“[“Life in the homeless lane”] I wonder how Sloan can afford a laptop computer with Wi-Fi, yet still need to go to soup kitchens for free food (then criticize them). Those services are for people who are “truly” indigent. You are taking advantage of the disadvantaged — stop it!.”

Well, I bought the laptop some years ago, and have found another homeless person, who is an IT pro, who works on it. Before I ran out of money altogether, I paid a company in India to look out for my laptop for one year. They do a good job, too. I also have a back up laptop, which I also bought several years ago, which I use when the main laptop is on the blink. I sometimes use free online computers at the county library, the Senior Citizen Center on Truman Avenue, and Florida Keys Community College library. I go where wi-fi is free: county library, Senior Citizen Center, Harvey Government Center, Sippin’ Internet Cafe, on Eaton Street, near Tropic Cinema, where I buy a V-8 juice, $2.15 and often a 3-egg spinach omlette with toast made from their homemade bread, $6.50. I have no place to live, sleep where I am able, and at KOTS [the city’s homeless shelter]- no rent. I eat most days at the soup kitchen, which serves better food, nutrition-wise, and larger servings, than most Key West restaurants. I get around on a junker bicycle, which I bought cheap and put good tires and tubes and two good baskets, front and rear, on it. I receive monthly Social Security retirement benefits, net $745 to me after Medicare deducted, close to $100 per month for that. Don’t recall criticizing the soup kitchen on Flager Avenue, but sometimes have been critical of pushy envangelists who sometimes show up there, usually from Glad Tidings Tabernacle Church. Was sometimes critical of pushy evangelists at Glad Tidings soup kitchen at Higgs Beach, but that was over a decade ago. En route to being in this fiscal condition currently, I gave away over $350,000 to needy people and organizations since February 2006. In an earlier time, I gave away a lot more than that, en route to being homeless. Maybe I should give the $745 a month Social Security away, too, to be indigent. Actually, I do give some of it away. What I don’t do with it is buy narcotics: booze, cigarettes, spice, coffee, marijuana, etc., which is what most homeless people I know do with their monthly check from Social Security, the VA, etc. Meanwhile, I still work just as hard as ever, if not more hard, in ongoing spiritual warfare with demons and their human proxies, for which human beings do not pay me. I still get attacked a lot, like this reader comment Deer Ed sent to me from the CT, which I have not read in months. You folk still reading the CT can go to goodmorningkeywest.com any day and see what I got into lately, there’s a new post there every day, usually up by noon. And now there is a PayPal button, for people who want to donate to keeping that website going. For CT readers who do not know, Deer Ed built that website for me, and taught me how to use it, and I paid him what he asked to do that, no quibbling. Ed, if you don’t put my name on this, please don’t publish it on the CT. Thanks, Sloan
P.S. Here is something on the homeless man who works on my laptop and website, for free, since I can’t pay him. I published this the day before yesterday, July 13, at goodmorningkeywest.com:

This afternoon at 5 p.m. begins this year’s Hometown PAC call to candidates at Salute Ristorante on Higgs Beach.
Historically, snacks quite good and free, booze and soft drinks you pay for. Candidate hopefuls get 2-3 minutes to tell about themselves. If anyone asks me if I’m running this year, I’ll liable to say, yeah, for the county line. Or, as Kari said in jail this morning when I said that, for the state line. Or, for the Canadian line, I said. I think we both were close to wetting our pants laughing.
Meanwhile, a couple Facegook frolics contributed by a vicious van dweller criminal amigo:
