Hello Sloan. Just for the record, my job is to maintain the website and e-mail database. keyscoalitionchair@yahoo.com is Connie’s e-mail address through Keys Coalition. I scan through them all and pass along anything I feel she should know. Especially since we tend to get overwhelmed with responses at times. The only time we ever posted an event outside of Florida on our website was for one in Washington, D.C. Since we are still growing we only have about 2 events a year. So in order to keep “something” on our events page I include anything in the state of Florida but not outside that.
Regarding Tim or Connie’s reasons for being involved, well, I believe that is rather personal and should not be broadcasted in any e-mails. They both do the best they can with what they have to work with and I am grateful for both of them.
The only thing I ever wrote to you about was that strange ocean bacteria causing nasty infections. Don’t know why you would think anyone had to put me up to that. Perhaps you are referring to our first newsletter which went out to 400 people. By the way, thanks so much for posting those dates in your e-mail. The more that know the better.
I feel your pain regarding your request to be taken off of Tim’s mailing list. Never worked for me either so I blocked all 6 of his email address. Whatever I need to know has to go through Connie’s personal e-mail first. Especially changes to the website, newsletter and database. So far you should have only received 3 emails through the keyscoalitionchair account. I will gladly remove you from that list if you would like. Just note that it has nothing to do with Tim. He does not have access to that account at all so that we can control who and what to take seriously.
I greatly appreciate your comments and opinions. It’s very difficult to get people to get on board for such a taboo subject. We took a really big hit when someone representing the office of immigrations stated that we have a big problem in Key West with human trafficking. Of course this is just what we needed to boost the purpose of our cause so we stated it every chance we had. Then we got our hands slapped after being corrected by the DCF and the rep from the immigrations office learned their lesson too. This took place at a Summit on Human Trafficking that we attended over a year ago. It’s funny because a part of the summit was Media control and recognizing that not everything you hear is true. Statistics are also a touchy subject especially since the National Criminal Justice Reference Service, Administered by the Office of Justice Programs, admits that they have not been keeping records on the statistics for long enough to give a definite account.
All the same, I must admit, I do go out to the strip clubs every chance I get. I fold one of our information cards into a bill and hand it over. I can only help that it gets the word out at least. I have been kicked out of all of them and Rossi knows who I am ; ) I just wait a month or two and go back.

I didn’t know if Tim had put you up to sending that to me about the upcoming Keys Coaliton event, to get around my getting him to promise not to send me anything else from Keys Coalition not having to do with child-sex trafficking in the Florida Keys specifically. After receiving that from you, I did wonder, though, if Tim was behind your writing to me about MRSA?
Using a Keys Coalition email address, Tim kept sending me stuff about all forms of slaving all over the mainland and globe, which I had asked him not to send, and he said he would stop, but he didn’t. From what you wrote, blocking out six email accounts Tim was using, it seems Keys Coalition either is a serious house divided, or cannot, or will not, rein Tim in. He is listed on Keys Coalition’s membership list on the website as the Coalition’s Strategist. I told Tim today in an email, among other things, that the Coalition needs a new Strategist. What’s he still doing showing that position on Keys Coalition’s website, if he is not speaking for Keys Coalition?
I am fine receiving stuff from Keys Coalition, if it is focused on child sex trafficking in Key West and the Keys. Out of town experts brought in to talk about what’s going on elsewhere and assure us it’s going on in the Keys, but they don’t know, because they never dealt with it in the Keys, don’t get me excited.
I hope you don’t take offense, because none is intended, the opposite, in fact, respect. I nearly cracked up when you described your “ministry” in the Duval Street clubs, and Mark Rossi knowing who you are. For quite a while I’ve been trying to get Tim and Connie do go into those clubs, and all I get back is excuses and equivocation and diversionary news from the mainland. Kudos to you, Gyvel. Kudos to you. Walking the talk, putting your body and soul and perhaps social and political relations on the line.
I write about what drives Connie and Tim, because the RESCUE SYNDROME has wrecked more potentially good causes than perhaps can be counted with a HAL computer (the Artificial Intelligence what went bonkers on the space ship in “2001, A Space Oddesy”, and turned against the human astronauts).
Deep soul wounding in many anti-abortionists drove them to become raving, raging manics picketing abortion clinics. Deep soul wounding in many pro-abortionists had the same effect on them. Calmer heads advocated adoption in lieu of abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, damaged fetus.
I forced a woman to have two abortions of children we had conceived together. Not physical force, mental. It tore her up. I didn’t like it either, and deep down it tore me up. I wasn’t ready to have another child. I finally dealt with it by getting a vasectomy, which tore her up again. It tore me up, too, but I was not then in touch with that.
I am convinced now, most abortions cause deep soul trauma in the mother, and often in the father. But I was unable to prevail that view with rigid, or fanatical, men and women who where so polarized that they were closed tight, maybe forever.
Fanatics should not lead or speak for, or be allowed to appear to lead or speak for, Keys Coalition. If Tim wants to keep proselytizing his views, he should not do it with a Keys Coalition email account, nor as a representative of Keys Coalition.
If Keys Coalition is smart, it will not let Tim speak for it in the future. You, Connie, someone level needs to do that. And, yes, you folks very definitely need to be cautious about sex trafficking statistics you are fed from other people who, right, are not trustworthy and/or are fanatics disguised.
I personally think the first line, and the best line, and perhaps the only line of defense to child sex trafficking in the Keys, or anywhere in America, is pediatricians, family practitioners and school teachers, starting with kindergarten. I think that because I am convinced most kids who go into the trade were sexually molested earlier.
Sexually molested kids give off symptoms in their behavior, affect, etc. The challenge is getting pediatricians, family practitioners and teachers trained and willing to report to the authorities what they see. In the Keys, the authorities are not the school principals, nor the schools superintendent, nor the school board. They have proven they will not be responsible.
In the Keys the authorities are the Key West PD and the Sheriff and the State Attorney. I think maybe by state law, yes?, no?, physicians and school teachers and mental health workers are required to report suspected child abuse, especially sexual child abuse. That’s because it is well known and documented, families seldom will report it.
The angels who run me say one-half of all children are molested. That dwarfs the child sex trafficking numbers, unless you classify child molestation as child sex trafficking, which it is.

I do not see him giving permission. I did not have his permission. I published it because he said, during his long career, 50 percent of the kids he had tried to get in to see a doctor, clinic, etc. about VD were school drop outs. I figured that was something the school board and superintendent needed to know. They all receive my posts. I did not expect them to do anything with it, because that is not their style in such matters, at least not in my experience. The school district is well known to be anal retentive Puritan squared when it comes to sex ed. I’m glad WomanKind got a foot in that door. I hope they do some good.
Just a little while ago, on CNN News, a recorded interview of Michael Douglas was aired. Asked what he thought was the cause of his throat cancer?, he said he thought it was cunnilingus. Then followed a squeamish discussion by Errin Burnett, the news journalist, with others about whether there was anything to what Michael had said. A doctor said, yes, it is very possible for cunnilingus to transmit a certain virus which causes throat cancer in men with the same frequency the same virus causes cervical cancer in women. Then followed more squeamish discussion by Burnett and others.
Imagine that discussion happening in a sex ed class at KW High School. Imagine that discussion being had in a school board meeting. Imagine reading about that discussion in The Key West Citizen or the Keynoter, or hearing it on Bill Becker and/or Ezra Marcus’s news programs on US 1 Radio. I thought of throat surgery I had last year, the ENT physician and the pathologist said it was caused by a virus, which can cause cancer, but the growth on my larynx had not progressed to cancer yet. I imagine my thinking that being a monk for years maybe ain’t such a bad thing as I have thought it was.

On another schools front, received this interesting email yesterday:
I am a partner with Will Benson in a solar project we have been working on
for the school district for over a year now. We had a chance meeting with
Pat Lefere as we were aware he has been tasked with looking into solar once
he comes on board in July.
Pat's view on solar in a "word" is that it does not work, is too expensive,
and does not meet his ROI characteristics. After which there was no further
discussion.
Sadly, he is mistaken. We have offered the school district to install 4 MW
of solar power meeting the 180 mph wind tests in the county at no net cost
to the county. The proposal saves the school operating budget over $800,000
annually ( limited only by the Keys Energy net meeting rules) and, to be
redundant, costs the capital budget the same amount annually as the
electricity costs saved....except in the future years when electricity costs
rise and it saves over $1.0M ....
The program provides 4 MW of emergency power offered to the grid when the
tie line is down and provides recovery shelter energy to those schools
which get back onto the grid soon after a storm..as soon as a school is back
up the energy it produces goes into the grid to support the gas turbine
energy providing only about 60% of the local requirements.
I have known Will since he was sophomore in HS....He has an impeccable
reputation in the Keys and everyone is ducking this, why? We have also
offered to install 347 kW on the Poinciana school at no charge ( $997,000
cost) and lease it at the cost of the electricity saved - in so many
words... yet, it is not a PPA. And that is around $70k annually.
The panels are warranted for 30 years by a $1bn European family trust, the
production is guaranteed by a triple A rated insurance company and we have
included the other electricity installers of the keys in the build out...
The total $12M install is financed for 22 years at the fixed cost after
which the next 20 years of energy is free.
I am PENN undergraduate, Wharton MBA, member BoD Wharton, I was Managing
Director of Hasbro Europe and SVP of the publically traded parent, CEO of
FAO Schwarz and investment banking partner of Drexel Burnham Lambert....
this is a no brainer, and maybe that is the problem.
