It was my understanding from almost the beginning of Keys Coalition, that its mission was to prevent child sex trafficking in the Florida Keys. I came to this understanding through conversations with Connie Gilbert and Tim Gratz, both of whom I had known for a while, Connie longer than Tim, when Keys Coalition was formed.
What I came to see, however, was tremendous focus away from the Keys, on the Florida mainland, in USA, and around the world. I also came to see adult sex trafficking included in the focus. Then, I came to see all forms of human slavery included. All forms terrible. 99.999 percent not in the Keys.
Many times, I told Tim and Connie, I was not interested in Keys Coalition’s efforts beyond the Keys. Yet, they, mostly Tim, kept trying to engage me with what looked to me to be a rising fanaticism which, because of my life experiences, caused me to conclude what really drove Connie and Tim was deep tears in their own souls, caused by being sexually violated in childhood. This is an area in which I have considerable experience, going both ways, and trying to help people who had similar experiences.
I wrote of that a number of times on my websites, and in a recent email to several Keys Coalition members, responding to an email from Tim, which ignored my previous request to be left out of any Coalition emails and discussion not specific to the Florida Keys. So that’s all I will say about it here. Now, it could appear, Connie and Tim recruited you to write to me.
I think a hotline is a good idea, but I do not think a national hotline is a good idea, or will appeal to people in the Keys. The hotline should be into the Sheriff Department, in my opinion. If the county commission is willing to make a hotline county legal, then why not make a county hotline legal?
I also have told Connie and Tim many times, and have published that many times, you have a very serious sex trade in young men and young women raging on and just off of Duval Street. Despite my many attempts to persuade Connie and Tim to direct their fanaticism, which they apparently cherish, against Duval Street, they do not. They continue to go global.
Connie’s guest editorial had almost nothing to do with the Florida Keys. It is about her past, to large extent. For me, her guest editorial simply is not relevant to what I understand Keys Coalition was created to attempt to do. Attempt. For, and alas, as she and Tim already know, there is no way to make a dent in the Duval Street sex trade. It is as ingrained and perpetuating as what Connie and Tim bemoan on the mainland and globally.
It looks to me that, basically, Connie and Tim, and others they have introduced me to, mostly by email, are trafficking in the sex trade. Emotionally trafficking. Some also are trafficking for profit. It also looks to me that they are themselves slaves. If that is how they wish to live out their lives, that is their decision. However, it is not what Connie and Tim told me Keys Coalition was created to try to do: prevent child sex trafficking in the Florida Keys.
I looked over Keys Coalition’s website before replying to your email. About 99.999 percent of its focus is not about the Florida Keys. Same for your email, to which I am responding.
city commissioner Mark RossiGyvel, when you folks try to shut down Mark Rossi’s clubs, and the other strip and lap dance clubs, the 801 Club, the Scrub Club, and I mean by going into those places and raising hell, by going to city commission meetings and raising hell, by going to the Monroe County Commission and raising hell, by going to the Key West Police Department and the Sheriff Department and raising hell, by going to Governor Scott and raising hell, about those places, with the same relentless fervor I am bombarded in Coalition emails about what’s happening on the mainland and globally, you will have my attention.
Meanwhile, again I say, the best people to sniff out and report suspected child sex trafficking [and molestation] are Keys pediatricians, family practitioners and school teachers.
FYI, I recently spoke with the Monroe County Health Department employee, whom I personally know, who is the only Health Department employee who tries to get kids with VD into clinics, doctors, etc. This is his career, for decades, even before he was in the Keys. He said about one-half of kids he has tried to help in this way during his career had dropped out of school.
He was delighted that WomanKind got into the schools, to help kids with safe sex, etc. He did not want me to write about what he told me, but darn, what he told me seemed terribly important to the people of the Keys.

The schools, especially in Key West, I hear, were very resistant to students being taught about safe sex, etc. I wonder what school board chairman Andy Griffiths (photo), founder of The Griffiths Rule (praise in public, criticize in private) and the Key West chapter of De Nile Society, might have to say about what the County Health Department worker told me: about one half of the kids he had tried to help during his long career had dropped out of school?
